Book Review: The Only Genuine Jones by Alex Roddie

 Five Stars

A tale of rivalry, fear, courage and love, of doing the right thing, set against the backdrop of the Eiger and culminating on the  terrifying wall of the North Face.
The climbing sequences are atmospheric and absorbing, often frightening but always plausible.   While technicalities are subtly explained for the non climber, the elegant language perfectly gives the reader a sense of the Victorian period.
All of the central characters are beautifully drawn; a cast of real, passionate yet flawed individuals.  But for me the presence of two strong female protagonists in such a masculine environment makes this a five star read.
