Pond Life

We have a healthy population of palmate newts in the new pond - at least a dozen, and soon to be more!

Female laying eggs - a folded over leaf hopefully containing an egg can be seen on the right.

Water boatman no doubt looking forward to a meal of young newts!

The first iris of the year. Iris de Japon panaché.

We also have marbled newts in the pond who are only seen gulping air in the daytime and so far are proving impossible to photograph.  I shall keep trying!
