French Living 7th January 2015 Je suis Charlie

This blog is usually full of inconsequential musings on food and gardening, budgeting, writing and reading, but today is not the day for that. And silence would be wrong, too.

Yesterday was a day of shock and numbness, but last night anger took over.

Human beings are remarkable creatures, as a species we have adopted so many languages, appearances and guises, have so many different ideas of what makes the perfect day, meal out or partner, idea of beauty or means of interpreting the world we live in.

For comfort, most of us gravitate towards those who share our own or a similar perspective on life,

We might engage in a little light persuasion with our neighbours which may open both their and our minds a little.  A few may stand tall for what they believe in and take bullets and peace prizes for their trouble.  And some kill.

This isn't very eloquent, but

You cannot force us to think like you.
You will not terrify us into thinking like you.
And there are far, far too many of us to kill everyone who does not think like you.

We will not be destabilised or polarised.

  1. Well said! I think the marches over the weekend helped demonstrate what you've said--they can't scare us into submission!
