Garden: Autumn Colours.

Temperatures dropping into single figures for the first time since the early spring, leaves changing colour and collecting in little heaps beneath the trees, misty mornings and the village full of drifting woodsmoke: Autumn is well and truly here.

Chard Bright Lights catching the morning sun. These plants will feed us right through until late spring. Unless the voles get them!

Zinnias. I'll be growing these again after a gift of plants from my neighbour. Beautiful, if rather loud.

Leeks, just about big enough to eat; we have already lost half, over a hundred plants, to the field voles.

The best crop of figs from our six year old Madeleine des deux Saisons, a triumph as she was strimmed to the ground in year one. The birds love them.

Autumn is grass season: Pink Pampass grass standing out against the blue sky.
