Some views of Marciac in Gers, home of the Jazz Festival. We have been meaning to visit since we first moved to the Midi-Pyrenees in 2010 but had never quite got around to it, until this week. And now we are really looking forward to frugal free jazz in the square in July!
Marciac is a bastide town, founded in 1298 and dominated by the large central square, where most of these photos were taken.
We visited in the late morning and as you can see it is very, very quiet in early May.
The square itself was mostly tidy, although quite a few buildings were for sale and the only butcher sadly closed down, and, given how off-hand the service in the only open boulangerie was, I'm faintly surprised they are still open. Although that's probably down to the delicious bread and awesome (looking) tarts!
Midi rush hour, above!
Deep colonnades give cool shade around the square.
But once we left the square things seemed very sad indeed.
Although not the fabulous Wynton Marsalis!
Your photos are lovely.
