Garden: Aquilegias

Having arrived in this garden with just one pink double and one classic dark purple single aquilegia in pots, themselves self-sown amongst my beloved hostas,  I now have a huge array of self-sown plants scattered amongst the gravel on the south side of the house.  They mix so well with the softness and lightness of the also self-sown forget-me-nots, bronze fennel and the odd brash marigold.  If only they flowered right through the summer.

Why I spent time sowing and pricking out bought seed I will never know, and they are yet to flower!

A sea of aquilegia

Working well with the bronze fennel.

Once the flowers have gone, the foliage softens the edge of the decking.

I wonder what colour combinations 2016 will bring?
