Food: Sour Green Tomatillo Curry

We've had a glut of tomatillos this year, so much so that a couple of limbs have snapped right off the plant. Normally we just enjoy the few we get in a refreshing salsa, but with so many to use I've gone down the standard default route of making a curry. Not being able to find one I really liked, I've adapted a couple more normally associated with green tomatoes. The result is so pleasing that my other half has actually put in a request for more. Unheard of!

The recipe is for a basic wet sauce in which the tomatillos are then cooked so could no doubt be used for a multitude of other glutting things, and even pork, chicken or seafood.

Food: Vegetable Spaghetti Salad Curry

We do pretty well with all sorts of squashes and courgettes in the garden, but I find the spaghetti squash sometimes the most challenging to cook; great texture, zero flavour! Trawling the internet produces dozens of recipes where the vegetable is used as a substitute for its carbohydrate namesake - cook it, shred it and stick a ragu or cheese sauce on it, and for extra excitement pile it back in the shell and bake/grill it - but that just doesn't work for me.  Apart from anything else, we eat a high carbo diet as we are normally pretty active people and carbohydrates are usually cheap!

Spicy Shopping Trip

We've been back to the UK for a dutiful flying visit to my mum and the in-laws, the first time we've been back for 12 months mostly, because I've not been well enough to travel, and indeed, after the Tuesday to Saturday trip I was totally exhausted.  A 6am flight which meant leaving our UK base at 3am didn't help.

But we are back now, and I'm largely recovered thanks to a 12 hour sleep and with just a dull ache in most joints to remind me to take it easy for a few days.  It was a largely successful visit and we managed to do two of the three essential things (familial duties apart) that we aim for on trips to Britain, namely buy spices and go to a pub.  Having a curry fell by the wayside.
